Festival de Cannes 2011 : Are you talking to my Jury ?


The american actor, director and producer Robert De Niro is the President of the Jury of the 64th Festival de Cannes (11 to 22 May 2001).


In 1980, he received the Best Actor Oscar for Raging Bull by Martin Scorsese and presented eight films at Cannes. Two of them were awarded the Palme d'Or: Taxi Driver, in 1976, followed ten years later by Mission by Roland Joffe.

Emir Kusturica’s certain eye.


Serbian director Emir Kusturica chairs the jury for the Un Certain Regard section at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. The filmmaker belongs to the circle of directors awarded twice a Palme d'Or for When Father Was Away on Business and Underground in 1985, two years later.

The Marché du Film in Cannes


The Marché du Film is the biggest event in the international film industry. Every year, around 10,000 film industry professionals from all over the world reunite at the Marché du Film in Cannes. Some 4,000 companies, 650 exhibitors from more than 100 countries meet  to discover 890 films and negotiate, buy, and sell from May 11 to 20.

Launched in 2004, the Producers Network hosts around 550 producers from all over the world in a series of meetings created to stimulate international coproduction through Breakfasts, Speed-Dating, Master Classes.

In 2011, the Marché du Film is launching the PRODUCERS WORKSHOP, a program designed for producers who have little or no experience with the Marché du Film and the Festival de Cannes or who have just made their debut as producers on the international stage. It will start the first Thursday afternoon and includes a series of seminars and workshops which will help producers in their future endeavors at the international level and their participation in the Marché du Film.

Opening of the 64th Festival de Cannes


Woody Allen’s «Midnight in Paris» opened tonight the 64th Festival de Cannes after that the president of the jury, Robert de Niro has declared the Festival open. On the croisette, the curtain is opened on the feast of the cinema.

We elbowed our way to take a few pictures among the effervescence.

Festival de Cannes - Day 2


After the Opening ceremony, the screening of Woody Allen’s «Midnight in Paris» the opening festivities  continued with a dinner and a party at the Agora. Attended by many stars, of course.

The competition in the Official Selection begun today with «We Need to Talk About Kevin» by Lynne Ramsay.

Festival de Cannes - Day 3


The Festival is in full swing and stars walk up the Red Carpet and attract crowds of journalist at press conferences. Few respite for the «Festivaliers» who run from room to room and for photographers whose flashes crackle at each arrival of film teams.

Festival de Cannes - Day 4


Today’s highlight was the arrival of Penelope Cruz and Johnny Deep on the Croisette for the presentation of «Pirates of the Caribbean». A huge crowd of fans welcomed the two artists.

Festival de Cannes - Day 5


The Dardenne brothers show tonight "The Kid with the Bike". Why not a third Palm after "The Child " and "Rosetta" and a Best Screenplay for «Le Silence de Lorna», plus the Interpretation price of Olivier Gourmet who acted with the Dardenne brothers ("The Promise ") ?

Festival de Cannes - Day 6


Tonight is shown one of the most awaited film «The Tree of Life» by Terrence Malick with Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Rave reviews from recognized critics are already circulating about the film on Twitter. The Red Carpet in the evening gathered stars, more stars and stars again.

Festival de Cannes - Day 7


Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster is returning to the festival as a director with her third film, after Little Man Tate (1991) and Home for the Holidays (1996). She directs and co-stars with two time Academy Award winner Mel Gibson in «The Beaver», an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life.

Festival de Cannes - Day 8


The competition presents today «The Conquest» by Xavier Durringer about the rise of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy between April 2002 and May 2007, showing «bling-bling» politics at its worst. The screening of «The Conquest» comes a day after that the French leader's father revealed to the press that his son and his wife were to have a baby.

Festival de Cannes - Day 9


Today’s Festival de Cannes highlight is Antonio Banderas’ coming on the Croisette for Pedro Almodovar’s «La Piel Que Habito» (The Skin I Live In). The  spanish filmmaker, big name of the Festival, relaunches the forecasts for the Palme d’Or, unavoidable in this end of the competition. Anyway, forecasts very seldom become true in Cannes.

Festival de Cannes - Day 10


The Festival de Cannes provides great stars everyday : Sean Penn came on the Croisette for the second time to present «This Must Be The Place» in which he stars as a former rock star. The tradition of the Aïoli at Suquet Place de la Castre gathered the members of the Jury, the Deputy-Mayor of Cannes and his deputies and the journalists.

Festival de Cannes - Day 11


The two last films of the competition have been presented today : «The Source» Radu Mihaileanu and «One Upon a Time in Anatolia» by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Have they a chance to win a prize ? The forecasts are going nineteen to the dozen, but in the end, the Jury will have the last word.

The Festival de Cannes ends in beauty with Catherine Deneuve starring with her daughter Chiara Mastroinani in Christophe Honoré’s «Beloved».

The Festival de Cannes is over and the awards have been announced : La Palme d’Or goes to «The Tree of Life» by Terrence Malick.
