«The Kid with the Bike» by Jean-Pierre et Luc Dardenne.
The Dardenne brothers show tonight "The Kid with the Bike" : Cyril, almost 12, has only one plan: to find the father who left him temporarily in a children’s home. By chance he meets Samantha, who runs a hairdressing salon and agrees to let him stay with her at weekends. Cyril doesn’t recognize the love Samantha feels for him, a love he desperately needs to calm his rage.
Perhaps a third Palm after "The Child " and "Rosetta" and a Best Screenplay for «Le Silence de Lorna», plus the Interpretation price of Olivier Gourmet who acted with the Dardenne brothers ("The Promise ").
Belgium has introduced an dynamic initiative for film support with the Belgian Tax Shelter, one of the most effective systems to support creation in Europe.
L’Atelier 2011
Since its creation in 2005, L’Atelier has been stimulating creative filmmaking and encouraging the emergence of a new generation of directors. In 2011, L’Atelier has selected 15 projects from 15 countries for their artistic quality and their originality. The directors will take part to the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival with their producers. From May 13 to 20, L’Atelier will arrange meetings with the film industry professionals interested in their project. This will help L’Atelier’s participants to complete financing packages for their films.
Gilles Jacob says about L’Atelier : «When I decided in 2005 to entrust L’Atelier to the Cinéfondation, I had two goals for it. The first was to choose film projects which were both artistic and creative and to be open minded regarding geographic diversity. The second was to make sure that the films could be produced quickly and had very committed producers from the beginning of their financing. Therefore, I decided to limit the number of projects to fifteen in order to showcase only the best ones. In the past six years, L’Atelier has brought almost 100 projects to the Festival. They were presented to hundreds of potential partners during meetings organized on the spot each year with directors and producers, thereby facilitating international coproduction. Almost all of these film projects have come to fruition, usually within the year following their presentation at L’Atelier. Now, just before the Festival and its annual selections, the Cinéfondation is working to meet a new demand: to explore film projects and to promote the creation of new trends in filmmaking.»
