Pan Am flies to success
At Mipcom, Sony Pictures TV unveiled PAN AM, from writer Jack Orman (ER) and director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing), a new series taking audiences back to the 1960s. The storyline begins in 1963 and focuses on stewardesses and pilots working for the world-famous airline, when travel was glamorous, stewardesses were all young and beautiful. In this modern world, air travel represents the height of luxury, and Pan Am is the biggest name in the business. The planes are sleek and glamorous, the pilots are notorious, and the stewardesses are the most desirable women in the world. Not only are these flyboys and girls young and good looking, but, representing Pan Am, they also are educated, and refined. Sexy plot lines mingle passion, adventure and espionage… at 30,000 feet high in the sky. The style of the 1960s, the energy and excitement of the Jet Age and a drama full of sexy entanglements make of “Pan Am” - where stewardesses may reveal being spies - a thrilling and highly original new series.
The series was picked up by ABC in May 2011 for the 2011–2012 television season and was taken by BBC2 for the U.K., TF1 for France, CTV for Canada, Canal+ for Spain, Imagica BS for Japan, Nine Network in Australia and ProSiebenSat.1 for Germany.
