Focus On Russia
Focus on Russia’s high potential and vitality
Mipcom’s Focus on Russia began at the Opening Party of which Channel One Russia and Red Square Group were main sponsors. The Siberian Babushkas have delighted guests with their versions of pop and rock hits. Mipcom Focus on Russia included a Co-Production Matchmaking and Case Studies and the Networking Lunch and plenty of events around the Russia House, host of Channel One Russia, Riki, Red Square group and Central Partnership. On his Media Mastermind Keynote address in the Palais des Festival Grand Auditorium, Konstantin Ernst, CEO of Russia’s biggest broadcaster, Channel One Russia, has highlighted his country’s ability to create and produce international-quality content for domestic and worldwide audiences. Ernst said: «Since 2000, our public has been demanding more local products. It’s high time for Russian producers to create more and more original content.» As for now, Channel One reaches 99% of Russian viewers and 250 million in the world thanks to Channel One Russia Worldwide. One can watch «Who wants to be a millionaire» and films and series from the West, like on some other network in the world, but Russian versions of the formats are considered among the best in the world. Konstantin Ernst, considering Mipcom as being a «collective experience of civilization» has striven to communicate and demonstrate all their achievements to international professionals. He brought to Cannes the talk show «Let’s get married» about relationships between men and women and the docudrama «Understand» and a new project «Special Mission» featuring ordinary people and celebrities joining the Army for a real training. He has also presented KVN (Club of The Funny and Inventive), an intellectual game show. Red Square Group is the production arm of Channel One and the country's largest production house. Its priority is to create original product.
Other company under the spotlights: VGTRK, All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, the largest media holding in Russia. This company is promoting «Rasputin», a Russian-French co-producation starring French actors gérard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Vladimir Mashkov alongside a Russian cast. The shooting took place in the historic location in St Petersburg.
Russian media companies show great vitality: RT, the 24-hour information channel has built an audience of hundreds of millions in six years when CTC Media reported a 28% increase in revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2011. Thus, ideas, vitality, technology, and the huge Russian television industry advertising revenue are the assets to an increasing original and creative local production, appealing to co-production to enlarge the audience and pool costs.
