Cannes Establishes its Own University
A university campus west of Cannes
On March 9 was held at Cannes Town Hall the signing of the Convention for the establishment of the University Campus in Cannes in the presence of Mr. David Lisnard, First Deputy Mayor, Général Councillor, Claire-Dominique Mallemanche, Sub-Prefect, Eliane Kotler, Vice-President of the Sophia-Antipolis University, Claire Lovisi, Nice Academy Rector and University Chancellor, Jean Raymond Barbieux, Director of the Nice-Toulon Centre Régional des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires (C.R.O.U.S) and also in the presence of Josiane Attuel, Municipal Councillor, Delegate for Higher Education and manager of the project.
In the line of its vocation oriented towards multimedia and audiovisual, the city of Cannes in close partnership with the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis and the Nice-Toulon CROUS will establish on its territory an ambitious university center for teaching and research, about topics related to digital technologies, media and quality tourism.
Cannes, with its international influence, with the specificity of its economic strengths (tourism, events...), with the prestige of its B to B congresses has to be a university town in its own right. The municipality intends to make Cannes, a city of excellence and innovation in higher education and research, in synergy with the local dynamics and major projects. Based in La Bocca, the Cannes campus will aim to accommodate 1,000 students and will answer three key concerns shared by the five partners of the convention, who have signed this convention: spread the knowledge offered by the University Nice Sophia-Antipolis through innovative, open to employment courses; participate in the area economic and social dynamics; offer students and staff quality living and working conditions.
The project has three defined educational development centers: the Journalism and Communication Pole, the Film and Digital Technologies Pole and the Tourism and Luxury Hotels Pole.
