Beach Without Tobacco in Nice

Tobacco-free beaches in Nice

On February 20, 2012, in the presence of Christian Estrosi Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the new Nice - Côte d'Azur metropolis, Professor Ben Chimol and Professor Gilbert Lenoir, President of the National League against Cancer, the Convention of the first beach labeled "Beach without tobacco" was signed.

Indeed, the municipality has volunteered to make the Riviera's capital city of France the first to adopt the label "Beach without tobacco", which is a variation of the national "non-smoking area" label, created by the League against Cancer. With the signing of a partnership agreement with the League, the city of Nice wished to introduce new strong action in the field of public health, and chose the Centennial Beach that quickly emerged as a privileged site given its location and the actions that the city hosts (Handiplage, learning to swim). For this purpose, Mr Christian Estrosi stressed that the League against Cancer and the city of Nice have a common goal: the fight against cancer. He said: "We are all faced with the human misery and the terrible suffering caused by the poison that is tobacco (15,000 people dye of it each day worldwide and 60,000 in France per year)." Cancer is 90% lung cancers.  Following this signature, the city agrees to prohibit smoking on one or more public beaches and include in the communication of this action the words "Beach without tobacco", with the support of the League against Cancer, together with the logo of the League.  Be included in the non smoking beaches signs marking "No Tobacco Area", with the support of the League against Cancer, along with the logo of the League. Include the name of the town in a directory listing the towns and beaches without tobacco. Ensure communication about the operation "Beach without tobacco". Ensure the link in the Town Hall followed by the operation "Beach without tobacco".This agreement was signed for a period of one year.

The League against Cancer is a French association created March 14, 1918 by Justine Godart and recognized state-approved since November 22, 1920. It is a non-governmental organization (more than 700,000 members and 12,850 regular volunteers), and 103 League departmental committees mission have the mission to relay the League's action.
