Sustainable Development Exhibition
In Cannes, films are not the only ones to be awarded
Indeed, after visiting the Cannes21 Sustainable Development Exhibition booths on the Allées de la Liberté (Aisles of Liberty) in Cannes, during his inaugural address, Deputy Mayor Bernard Brochand, in the presence of his deputy Pascale Vaillant, recalled that last year he announced with some pride and joy that Minister Jean-Louis Borloo had just announced by mail that Cannes21, the program of actions for sustainable development, was recognized "Local Agenda 21" under the National Sustainable Development strategy. This national recognition, spoken for three years, came to reward the efforts and the approach undertaken by the municipality in that direction. Cannes21 also means 220 actions by the city of Cannes in favor of sustainable development, resulting from the city's commitment since 2007 to make a thorough assessment on the set of social and environmental criterium. Mr. Bernard Brochand then explained the commitment of the city over several years: "This plan sets a certain number of actions and means of action to be taken on three axes, which are the three pillars of sustainable development: environment, social and economy ".
The city of Cannes and its Mayor had already won the Golden Marianne in 2007 (national competition which annually recognizes the efforts of local officials) for municipal action in favor of Environment and Sustainable Development.
On the Aisles of Liberty, 40 exhibitors from different sectors as food, welfare, fair trade, housing, local producers, energy conservation, recycling and public service had all responded from march 31 to April 1st, to this early spring great green event. A feast for the land, an ode to joy for our dear planet, where it's nice to breathe, and a way to remember how beautiful nature is and how much we have to to preserve it for our upcoming children and grandchildren.
During the event, many appointments were given to Cannes people all week long such as free entertainment including an introduction to a climbing wall for kids, organic food tasting, games and gifts and discoveries were organized, with a pétanque contest and a slow food evening on Saturday evening at Forville market, guided tours, a film documentary "Waste Land, from garbage to museum", in La Bocca, an entertainment show for children at the Licorne hall: "The Freed Tree", a performance proposed by the "P'tits Cannes à You" and a conference debate "Gardening differently" at MJC Picaud.
