Jim Dine at Sainte Roseline

Jim Dine’s «Hearts in the Var»

The prestigious Château Sainte Roseline vineyard is one of the richest historical sites in Provence. Besides its outstanding and constantly awarded cru classé Côtes de Provence wines, a world-class cultural program is organized to propose artists of international quality. The Abbey, the plane tree alley and the various ball rooms allow Château Sainte Roseline to offer concerts and exhibitions. In association with the Guy Pieters Gallery, Sainte Roseline present an exhibition of paintings and sculptures from Jim Dine, american artist often associated with Pop Art.

At the beginning of his career, Dine is a pioneer of happenings that he performs with artists Claes Oldenburg, Allan Kaprow, and musician John Cage. The first is The Smiling Worker, performance of 1959. In the early 1960s, Dine performs works in the course of Pop Art from common patterns (hearts, skulls...) or symbols of everyday life (bottles, containers, tools... ) mounted in series and sometimes from real objects he inserts in his works. In 1967, he is exposed in London and spent four years developing his own technique in this city. He returned to the United States in 1971. In the 1980s he devoted himself more to the sculpture. Since then, he seems to find its models more in nature than in man-made objects. Jim Dine lives and works in New York.

Exhibition from July 2 to September 30, 2011

As a bonus to the Jim Dine exhibition, we propose a visit of the domain adorned with works of Art and the Sainte Roseline Chapel, one of the most visited sites in the Var region, in which one can admire works from Chagall, Bazaine, Ubac and Giacometti.
