The Dardenne Brothers Share Experience

An encounter with the Dardenne brothers

The Short Film Corner has organised a series of conferences on a wide range of topics. Being held throughout the event, the aim of these conferences is to give participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the short film industry. In one of these events, Jean-Pierre Dardenne, President of the Jury for the Short Film Competition, has been sharing his experiences with Cannes Short Film attendees in the Short Film Corner conference room. He was accompanied by his brother Luc, co-screenwriter, co-director, and long-standing co-creator. Together, they have been talking about cinema in an interview with film critic Jean-Sébastien Chauvin. A gamut of themes was discussed by the Dardenne brothers: from the need for meticulous screenwriting to production – a field in which they are both very well versed – as well as staging, mise-en-scene, and directing actors – including non-professionals.

About the Short Film Corner: believing that the young talents of today will be the big names of cinema in the future, the Festival de Cannes created "Cannes Short Film". At Cannes, short films are represented at the Competition, at the end of which the short films Jury awards a Palme d’or, and at the Short Film Corner, a professional area for meeting people, exchanging ideas and promoting films.
