Cannes is used to host world-class events and displays all the care put into welcoming the greatest international summit ever organized in France. Cannes and especially the Croisette is being adorned with all its finery to please the foreign delegations. The Palais des Festivals has received the huge G20 blue banner featuring the world. The safety system is getting stronger with the arrival of soldiers, gendarmes and police. Flowers and floral decorations are implemented. The Palais des Festivals is always a hive at D-5.

Cannes is getting ready to welcome G20 delegations D-4


The time when the 20 countries constituent of the G20 Summit plus guest countries are going to discuss majors international issues to settle a fairer and more secure world and a more regulated world economy is nearing by. Security being a key issue, more and more forces are engaged in the security system. Motorists are invited to move away their cars in order to clear off the Croisette and adjacent streets leading to the prestigious street.

Being a pedestrian is going to be adventurous to enter the secured Zone I or Zone 2. From midnight today, only six entrance points will filter the incoming people who want to venture in the Zone around the Palais des Festivals which will host the upcoming G20 Summit. Long delays are forecast because of serious security controls.

Cannes is getting ready to welcome G20 delegations D-2


The Zone 1 is secured since 00:00 a.m. Half of the Coisette, including major five-star hotels is closed to non-rightly-badged persons and vehicles. Streets in Cannes are void, empty from the usual touristic city traffic. Official convoys race through the Croisette pass the Palais des Festivals in parallel with helicopters going who knows where. The highest point of the Croix des Gardes hill overlooking Cannes has become a military zone.

At D-1, a large part of Cannes, most of the seafront, is isolated from the rest of the city. Entrance is granted only on presentation of an official badge. Large amounts of police forces filter the people at the entrance points and check badges and IDs. Sirens sound everywhere and convoys preceded by motorcade speed up through deserted streets.
